A stakeout is among the most demanding and potentially dangerous of all special enforcement operations. Officers who are assigned to these duties should be experienced, and have demonstrated tactical knowledge, skills, and abilities when performing these or similar assignments. Stakeouts are tactical deployments in anticipation of a crime, or to gather police intelligence. The target persons may be known individuals, or may be suspects known only by their method of operation (MO). The stakeout's purpose is to arrest the suspect(s), or to prevent a crime or terrorist act from occurring
