This course will explore non-pharmacological interventions and complementary therapies for the relief of pain. Concepts explored include hot and cold therapy, hypnosis, acupressure, massage, reiki, aromatherapy, and pet therapy. This course will not equip providers with how to practice these techniques but rather share best practices adapted from these interventions that can be applied within the scope of multiple professional practices. This course will also provide a brief overview about when each of these complementary interventions may be appropriate.

Esther Johnson has over 35 years of nursing experience and specializes in the care of the dying client. She is a recognized expert in introducing and training other clinicians about complementary and alternative medicines, teaching others how to use integrative therapies. She helped create, develop and implement an integrative therapies program for a large not for profit homecare and hospice in the San Francisco Bay area. She is also a clinical hypnotherapist, certified imagery guide, certified Acutonics practitioner and Reiki practitioner. Disclosure: Esther L.
