Cardiac Catheterization: Equipment for Interventional Catheterization

 

This is the fifth presentation and in six part webinar series. This program is for both new staff in the cardiac catheterization lab and for the more experienced staff to prepare for the RCIS examination. The program is comprehensive, beginning with a review of the anatomy and physiology, the basic and more advanced waveform analysis, the identification of shunts and the treatment modality. This program reviews the right heart catheterization, left heart catheterization, and interventional equipment descriptions and uses. The differentiation of coronary balloons, wires, and stents will be discussed. Commonly used cardiac medications are reviewed along with their effects and side effects.

Learning Objectives:
Identify commonly used guiding catheters in the cannulation of the left and right coronary arteries for the purpose of providing TIMI flow.
Identify the need coronary ancillary treatment options such as atherectomy, left ventricular support devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps and pacemakers.
Verbalize the commonly used interventional wires and coronary balloons for support and for trackablity.
