Clinical Supervision: Pitfalls of Supervision

Clinical supervision plays an important part in the development of the supervisee and places a great deal of responsibility and liability on the supervisor. Therefore, it is important that the supervisor is aware of some common issues that can occur and looks out for them throughout the supervisory process. In this course, you will be presented with information about some of these pitfalls, as well as steps that can be taken to deal with any issues which might arise along the way. The course begins with an overview of supervision and a discussion about the responsibilities of a supervisor. It specifies who is qualified to be a supervisor and places attention on the importance of trust in the supervisory process. You will also learn about the role of the supervisor as a gatekeeper for the profession, as well as how to provide constructive feedback to a supervisee. Additionally, the course focuses on ethical issues which are common in supervision and explores difficulties related to liability that often arise during this process. This course is intended for licensed clinical supervisors who want to gain a more in-depth understanding of pitfalls that are often seen in supervision, as well as steps to effectively deal with these issues. You will be provided with case examples, vignettes, and quizzes throughout the course to apply information learned and test your knowledge.
