Effective Calming Procedures

Many individuals with disabilities have irrational fears and anxiety over transitions, changes in the environment, events or items. This training will provide a brief literature review and framing of the challenge of calming, anxieties and phobias in individuals with disabilities. A step-by-step review of evidence-based calming strategies (timing, verbal mediation, etc.) will be demonstrated with multiple clients. The training will also review how to select target activities to proactively target calming such as using script procedures for conducting a “calm count” and how to fade them over time. *Participant complaints regarding this or any other BACB CE event requirements violations must first be directed, in writing, to the Relias Learning ACE Coordinator, Rhonda Davin, PhD. Please contact Dr. Davin via email: [email protected] The ACE Coordinator will make every reasonable attempt to resolve participant complaints; however, should the ACE Coordinator be unable to resolve the complaint, the complainant may file a formal complaint directly with the BACB.
