Learning Objectives:
Understand the science of chemical dependency and the factors
leading to prolonged substance abuse.
Develop an awareness of co-morbidity, which is the occurrence of two
or more physiological disorders manifested in the same person.
Learn some of the mental and physical effects when alcohol, tobacco,
illegal drugs, and prescription medication are abused.
Indicate aspects of the SBIRT model used to identify and assist drug
abusing and addicted individuals.
Review the principles which characterize effective assessment,
management and treatment for the chemically dependent.
Realize the additional provisions for parity of coverage for substance
use and mental health disorders in the Affordable Care Act
Recognize the five components for establishing an alcohol and drug
free workplace.

The target audience for this course is: Dental Professionals; in the following settings: Acute Care Facility.
