COVID-19 Requirements in LTC

Green Clock Hours: 0.25

In a continued effort to prevent COVID-19 transmission amongst the most vulnerable, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have issued regulations related to COVID-19 vaccination, vaccination education, and reporting. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2021), in adults over the age of 18, all approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccines are up to 95% effective against symptomatic, laboratory-confirmed COVID-19. They are more than 89% effective against COVID-19 severe enough to require hospitalization and highly effective against COVID-19-associated death. Vaccine education is critical to increasing vaccination rates and reducing COVID-19-related hospitalization and death, and reporting is essential to understanding how current measures are performing. Understanding these regulations will help you ensure the safety and well-being of those in your care. This course discusses CMS requirements for long-term care (LTC) facilities as well as intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF-IID).
