Teaching Self-Management: Medication Management Skills

Successful medication management is a critical component of health and wellness, medication safety, and prevention of adverse events like re-hospitalization. Occupational therapy practitioners have the skills to assess and remediate multiple problems experienced by patients challenged by performing this instrumental activity of daily living. This course reviews key areas of assessment of the skills required to achieve independence in medication management and how to implement effective treatment strategies.

Christopher Meketansky OTR/L graduated from Stony Brook University in 2017 with a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy. He received training in manual therapy, specialized treatment for individuals with degenerative neurological disorders and post-stroke neurorehabilitation. He has worked in skilled nursing and home healthcare settings with experience treating patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, balance impairments, and a myriad of other conditions impacting the older adult population.
