An appropriate custom chair with carefully selected accessories can positively impact an individual’s function, independence, and skin integrity while minimizing pain and spasticity. This course explains how to perform a comprehensive custom wheelchair evaluation and describes how to select an appropriate mobility base and postural support systems. The advantages and disadvantages of various seating systems and wheelchair components for custom seating are reviewed. Best practices in documentation are presented to ensure therapists understand what key information must be included and when to start the process to justify the need for a custom wheelchair.

Angie received her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Indiana University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Master of Occupational Therapy, both from The University of Findlay. She boasts over 18 years of clinical experiences with geriatric and neurologically impaired populations, including serving as a regional manager and educator for several rehabilitation organizations.
