We certainly live in a very diverse world and it is critical that all healthcare professionals understand and respect cultural beliefs and traditions. The assessment of culture, as well as the assessment and interventions that support spirituality, is essential in providing excellent palliative care to children and their families. In this course, you will learn that culturally competent care includes recognition of multiple factors (e.g., ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, social class, etc.). An interdisciplinary team approach is critical to ensuring cultural competence. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of cultural and spiritual aspects of pediatric palliative care.
