Elastography is the measurement of the elastic properties of soft tissues. Elastography enhances many traditional imaging modalities, including ultrasound and MRI. Ultrasound-based elastography is a noninvasive imaging technique that is useful in many clinical settings and is a rapid, painless, reproducible method of assessing several pathologies. The clinical uses of elastography in assessments of the liver, musculoskeletal system, and several cancers are growing, and research into its applications continues to be validated and expanded.
