About 795,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke each year. The direct and indirect costs of stroke in the U.S. are estimated at $46 billion a year. This estimate includes acute care, acute rehabilitation, missed work days, and follow-up care needed to manage ongoing neurological deficits. This course provides nurses and other healthcare professionals with an understanding of stroke, its treatment, and actions to increase public awareness to prevent stroke.

She currently serves as stroke nurse practitioner in the division of neurological critical care at Banner Desert Medical Center, Mesa, Arizona.
