Katy Kunst received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Master of Business Administration from Elon University. She has 14 years of experience serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their supporters, including roles as direct support professional, program director, and training facilitator. She has created and facilitated training on topics including non-violent crisis interventions, person-centered planning, cultural competence, quality service delivery, regulatory compliance, and a variety of topics related to IDD services. Ms. Leon was born Deaf and her native language is American Sign Language. She received her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Information Systems from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. and her Master of Education (M.Ed.) from Boston University. She was a teacher for at least 12 years at the public school in Boston where she taught Deaf students in special program. She also worked as American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor at various colleges around Boston. She later moved to Minnesota with her family and worked as ASL teacher in high school. She and her family moved to North Carolina in 2008 and she worked at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro for 7 years. Since then, she has been at Central Piedmont Community College. She teaches ASL classes and interpreting classes. She is currently certified by the American Sign Language Teachers Association).
