Asthma is a common chronic health condition that affects patients of all ages. It can significantly impair the quality of life of people who have the disease because of its effect on a basic life function: the act of breathing. Management of asthma is complex and costly, especially when patients must be hospitalized for severe exacerbations. However, asthma management in outpatient, home, and even school settings can help decrease the severity and frequency of exacerbations through guided pharmacological therapy and reinforced patient and family education. Healthcare professionals can improve the lives of patients with asthma by teaching patients about daily management of their disease and how to avoid long-term problems.
The goal of this course is to provide healthcare professionals in acute care settings with information about asthma treatment.
