Management of HIV Opportunistic Infections

Green Clock Hours: 1.00

Globally, millions have become infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and have a great risk of morbidity and mortality from opportunistic infections associated with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Although the incidence of opportunistic infections (OIs) is less among people being treated with antiretroviral therapy (ART), OIs will remain a significant cause of illness for those without access to antiretroviral therapy or for those with suboptimal response to treatment. Familiarity with the various ways a disease may present in a patient is necessary. This course reviews the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and nursing considerations for some of these infections and conditions.
