The Effect of Deployment, Combat Stress, and Moves on Families and Children

The Effect of Deployment, Combat Stress, and Moves on Families and Children

As a behavioral health provider working with military service members and their families, it is important for you to understand how these families are impacted by the deployment cycle. The effects of combat stress and frequent relocation also impact families a great deal. These aspects of military life differ in significant ways from the stressors that civilian families experience. The delivery of culturally competent care for military service members and their families requires a comprehensive understanding of the risks and vulnerabilities associated with these circumstances. It is also important to identify ways that you can capitalize on the strengths of service members and their families to best support them.
