Given the high prevalence of heart disease and behavioral health disorders among people in the United States, it should be no surprise that they often occur together (Harvard Heart Publishing, 2018). Physiological responses to behavioral health conditions and medications as well as lifestyle behaviors all contribute to increased risk for cardiovascular disease. The goal of this educational program is to provide addictions professionals, behavioral health counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and social workers in health and human services settings with information on how to mitigate risk for cardiovascular disease among clients they serve.
