There is an identified need to transition to evidence-based, effective self-management training programs for clients with chronic disease. Self-management programs are one of the most effective ways to decrease dyspnea and improve exercise capacity and health-related quality of life outcomes for individuals with pulmonary disease. This involves using a guided approach to assist clients in identifying problems that matter the most to them and making changes in their own behavior that will potentially lead to improved health.
The course will guide the learner through the process of supporting behavior change and how to implement a successful disease self-management training program for pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) clients. This approach is recommended for PR programs, hospital inpatient or outpatient respiratory clinic settings, and any program designed to help empower and engage clients with health management.
