Pharmacology is the study of the effects of drugs. It looks at how drugs act in the body and how the body responds to drugs. Pharmacology is vital to medicine, and all healthcare workers need to know the basic concepts surrounding the discipline. With the large number of drugs available to the public, the potential for interactions and adverse reactions is ever present. All medical assistants should be alert when dealing with drugs; when in doubt, checking and double-checking the drug and dose is highly recommended. The goal of this course is to educate medical assistants in the acute setting about the basic principles of pharmacology.
