Let’s face it. Working with people who are dying is a difficult task. But when engaging in this kind of care a professional caregiver is making some of the most important and rewarding contributions of their career. For most of us, life is something to be cele-brated and treasured. Our lives are filled with family, friends, home and laughter. We relish life, filling our days with simple pleasures. Dying can also involve simple pleasures, although it is difficult for us to imagine how, because the end of life is most often filled with sadness, loss, and grief. How can anything simple or pleasant come from such sorrow? It can come when we begin to understand that dying is an important part of living.
