Community-Acquired Pneumonia

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) can lead to sepsis. Furthermore, CAP is one of the most common infections seen in the emergency department. Each patient can present with varying severity of illness, from mild to severe, necessitating treatment in an outpatient setting or the intensive care unit (ICU). Timely interventions from multiple team members can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality rates. You will learn how CAP is defined, associated pathogens, signs and symptoms, along with treatment of patients with CAP. This course will go into detail about aspiration pneumonia.

Subject Matter Expert: Zeliha Ozen, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNL
Zeliha has extensive experience in critical care nursing in acute care hospitals, including cardiac intensive care and medical intensive care units. She has served in various roles, such as lung transplant coordinator, educator, preceptor, charge nurse, and code nurse. Additionally, Zeliha has worked on several quality initiatives for the ICU, such as infection control, cardiac education, and nursing onboarding. She earned a bachelor of science in nursing from Saint John University in Rochester, New York. She has a master of science in nursing and a master’s in clinical nurse leadership (CNL) from Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is also a certified critical care nurse (CCRN).
