This course provides an overview of ICD-10-CM Chapter 20, “External causes of morbidity,” and
Chapter 21, “Factors Influencing Health Status and Contact with Health Services,” and the circumstances in which codes from these chapters are assigned. It also addresses the proper selection and use of codes that provide data for research and evaluation of injury prevention strategies. These codes classify environmental events and circumstances that are the cause of injury and other adverse effects.
After completing this course, you will also understand how and when it is appropriate to assign codes for factors influencing health from Chapter 21.
