Approximately 8,900 new cases of tuberculosis, or TB, were reported in 2019 and it is estimated that 13 million people in the U.S. are living with latent TB (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2020a). While these numbers are some of the lowest in the world, it is important for all healthcare providers to have a general understanding of this disease. This course will review signs and symptoms and available testing procedures, as well as treatment and prevention related to this disease. The goal of this course is to provide all healthcare providers with a basic understanding of tuberculosis.
