Inflammation is a complex biochemical and cellular process that occurs in vascularized tissues. The inflammatory response consists of many phases. It starts with a generalized inflammatory response that attempts to increase blood flow and keep the injury from spreading. In the second phase, the immune system develops cellular components to deal with specific invaders or debris. After dealing with the initial insult, the final phase is a period of healing and resolution.
