Fractures are among the most common orthopedic problems. To properly code fractures, coders must have an understanding of the different types of fractures, as well as treatment of fractures and dislocations and casting/strapping. It is also important to have an understanding of the anatomy of the skeletal systems, as well as the physiology of bones, to assign the correct body part for fracture repairs. This course will focus on identifying the appropriate code for fracture care procedures using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set. Coding these musculoskeletal procedures using the CPT code set requires knowledge of the coding guidelines and instructions in the Musculoskeletal System subsection (20100-29999) of the Surgery section of the CPT codebook. A current copy of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®), Professional Edition is strongly recommended to optimize your understanding of the content covered.
