Musculoskeletal System: MSK Excisions and Radical Resection

Green Clock Hours: 1.00

This course will cover coding excision procedures performed on the musculoskeletal system using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) and the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code sets. When coding these procedures, coders must ascertain whether the excision procedure performed is reported with the codes for musculoskeletal soft-tissue excision or with the integumentary system excision codes. This course will provide an overview of the different types of excisions classified in the Musculoskeletal System subsection (20100-29999) in addition to the guidelines and coding instructions for reporting soft-connective tissue excisions. Key anatomical terms and procedural documentation elements to support the selection of these codes are also discussed.

The course will focus on identifying the appropriate code based on the coding guidelines and instructions in the Musculoskeletal System subsection of the CPT codebook. A current copy of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®), Professional Edition, is strongly recommended to optimize your understanding of the content covered.
