FMLA: What Supervisors Need to Know

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that mandates unpaid leave, job protection, and other benefits for eligible employees who face specific family or medical challenges. As an employer or supervisor, you need to know what obligations the FMLA imposes on your organization when an employee requests leave from their job. This course will introduce you to key provisions of the FMLA through a combination of easy-to-read summaries and skill-building activities that highlight how the law may apply in scenarios you could encounter at work. First, you’ll learn about which employees have rights under the FMLA and the circumstances under which they are eligible to take protected leave. Then, you’ll learn about your responsibilities both when an employee asks for leave and wants to return to work. Finally, you’ll learn how to comply with the FMLA and avoid potential pitfalls. This course is intended for any Human Resource professional or supervisor.
