Asthma Management for School Age Children

This is the fourth presentation in a four part, pre-recorded webinar series titled: Hot Healthcare Topics for School Age Children: Diabetes, Obesity, Asthma and Food Allergies. The health-care needs that children come to school with go far beyond dealing with an upset stomach or bandaging a skinned knee. Around 15,000 kids learn they have type 1 diabetes each year, three million suffer from food allergies, and 17% of those aged 2-19 are obese. In addition, Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting children. However, according to the National Association of School Nurses, only 45% of the nation's public schools have a full-time, on-site nurse; 30% have a part-time nurse, who often splits time between multiple school buildings; and 25% have no nurse at all. This course will provide school nurses, staff and administration with an update on managing food allergies, diabetes, obesity, and asthma, and preventing asthma attacks in school aged children.
