This course aims to teach you about the ethical and legal guidelines for conducting telehealth with adults who have behavioral health issues. The information in this course covers informed consent, as well as guidelines on confidentiality, boundaries, and privacy, including rules for sharing information. You will learn about mandatory reporting under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), along with prerequisites for delivering telehealth. Further, you will gain knowledge about guidelines for billing and practice across state lines. A blend of information and practical vignettes will offer you practical strategies that you can later apply in your own setting.

Steven R. Thorp, Ph.D., ABPP, is a Clinical Psychologist who is a subject matter expert with expertise in assessment, psychotherapy, posttraumatic stress disorder, and the use of technologies to assess and treat behavioral health disorders. He is a clinician and professor. His treatment specialty is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, including the third-wave therapies such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Thorp held leadership roles in VA hospital settings for 15 years and has taught undergraduate and graduate students at several universities.
