Green Clock Hours: 1.00

Lower extremity orthoses are prescribed to assist with or correct functional ambulation for all types of patients. Prescribing orthoses is a complex decision-making process that should be done in a collaborative team effort. The evaluation team consists of the physician, orthotist, physical therapist, and the patient. The physical therapist will evaluate the gait cycle, mechanics involved, and where the deficiencies occur to make appropriate recommendations for a specific type of device. This course guides therapists through the process of identifying the need for a lower extremity orthosis, making recommendations and working with a specialist to determine the ideal type.
The goal of this educational program is to provide physical therapists with the ability to identify the need for lower extremity orthoses and work with the team to determine ideal type.
