Interdisciplinary Approach to Preventing Falls
Interdisciplinary Approach to Preventing Falls
$20.00

The subject of fall prevention for the older adult is not a new one. Numerous programs, studies, and classes focus on this very important issue. Falls among older adults lead to injuries, lowered quality of life, decreased freedom, and even death (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016a). Fall prevention has become so important that it even has a day named after it (CDC, 2016b). In 2007, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) decided to raise awareness by declaring a Falls Prevention Awareness Day on the first day of fall. They started with four states and have now covered most of the United States of America (NCOA, n.d.). The aim of this course is to blend the classical fall prevention teachings you have learned in the past with new research. You will hear some familiar concepts because they are important, but you will also walk away with a few new tools in your toolbox based on current research and standards. In this evidence-based healthcare culture, you will have sound findings to support your treatment and programs. The goal of this educational program is to provide Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy Professionals in any setting with guidelines for preventing falls using an interdisciplinary approach.
