The Centers for Disease Control have identified individuals in correctional facilities as high-risk for suicide. As a correctional administrator, you have a responsibility to ensure correctional staff have the training and tools necessary for identifying, monitoring, responding, and reporting on suicide activities in the facility. This course will provide administrators, managers, and supervisors in jails, prisons, and community confinement facilities with insight into reasons why correctional facilities should develop and implement a suicide prevention program. It will also provide an overview of the key components of a suicide prevention program as identified by several national professional organizations, the types of reviews that should be completed, and the supportive services that should be offered to detainees/inmates and staff following a completed suicide.
