Domestic violence is a term used to talk about abuse that happens in the home. Domestic violence often involves patterns of control and fear, not just one-time events (Morgan & Truman, 2022). It usually means violence between people in a romantic relationship, like spouses or partners. But in some places, it can also mean abuse between other people living together. Oftentimes, other people in the home witness abuse or become involved in a way that is harmful for them. This course will define domestic violence and identify its common forms. Warning signs and behavioral indicators of domestic violence in adults and children will also be reviewed. Finally, the course will equip you with strategies to help prevent domestic violence.
