Many of the older adults you care for will have some degree of cognitive impairment. Cognitive impairment ranges from mild to severe. A variety of factors cause cognitive impairment in older adults. This course discusses the effects of dementia on older adults. It also discusses techniques on how to encourage independence while promoting safety. By understanding how cognitive impairment affects older adults, you will be able to effectively and safely provide care to these individuals.

The goal of this course is to educate entry level activity professional and entry level direct care workers in post-acute care with caring for the older adult with cognitive impairment.
