Substance use, particularly in the workplace, carries a stigma that can make it difficult to ask for help or to take steps to assist an impaired employee. It also results in a variety of expensive problems for organizations, such as low employee satisfaction, turnover, decreased productivity, injuries, and even a higher rate of insurance claims filed by employees. Supervisors have a unique role in the success of a drug-free workplace policy. They are often the first to identify a potential problem.

The goal of this course is to provide managers and leaders with an understanding of the competencies needed to identify and manage employees with substance use issues.
