Speech-language pathologists, assistants, and audiologists are often confronted with a variety of ethical and moral dilemmas. Their decisions, including the failure to make a decision, can have long-range effects, both professionally and personally, for providers, patients, health care entities, and for society as a whole. Why does one value win out over another? What does the decision process involve? How do these decisions impact those involved? Directed to speech-language pathologists/speech therapists (SLP or ST), speech-language pathology assistants (SLPA), and audiologists (Aud), this module will address ethical and moral dilemmas, the decision-making process, and present multiple ethical case studies. This course aims to help speech-language-hearing professionals understand their ethical responsibilities.
