In today's world, capnography is used for more than just ventilated patients. It captures end tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) in all 4 breathing phases, making it a valuable measurement in several areas of healthcare. These areas include, but are not limited to emergency departments, procedures, sedation, and analgesia events, as well as events in the field with first responders. ETCO2 is sometimes referred to as the "other" vital sign. Healthcare professionals, such as registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians should have a clear understanding of the values identified with ETCO2, as they can be used to improve outcomes of patient care. The dynamics of the relationship of improved ETCO2 readings via waveforms and digital readouts will be included in this presentation.
