This course begins with a historical overview of aseptic surgical techniques and early infection control. The course continues with a list of important terms the reader needs to know as defined within state and federal regulations and which are commonly used when discussing infection control. Infection control techniques for sterilizing instruments, surfaces, and work areas as well as the chain of infection are discussed, and brief narratives of tuberculosis, AIDS, and hepatitis follow. Finally, the course ends with a summary checklist dental personnel may find useful.
