Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2019a; American Heart Association [AHA], 2019). It is imperative that professionals working in the outpatient setting know how to diagnose heart conditions and respond accordingly. Professionals must be able to distinguish true chest pain from esophageal reflux, musculoskeletal disorders, and other differential diagnoses. The goal of this educational program is to provide nurses in community health settings with information on recognizing symptoms of common cardiac conditions, components of objective and subjective assessments, commonly used diagnostic tests, and interventions commonly used in cardiac care.
